Wood, a global leader in consulting and engineering, has been awarded a $17 million contract by a major petrochemical company in the Middle East to enhance efficiency and cut emissions at a process manufacturing plant.
Over the 18-month contract period, Wood will deliver consultancy, engineering services, and process technology to integrate a new heat recovery unit into the plant. This solution is projected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 110 kilo-tonnes annually—equivalent to taking 22,000 cars off the road.

The project involves innovative feasibility studies and early engineering to design a system that captures high-temperature flue gas and channels it to a waste heat recovery system, generating medium-pressure steam for improved efficiency.
Daniel Carter, President of Technical Consulting at Wood, emphasized the importance of process optimization, stating:“Optimising process technologies and equipment can deliver quick and immediate wins, offering a cost-effective way to significantly reduce emissions in industrial facilities."
He also highlighted the Middle East’s pivotal role in global decarbonisation efforts and reaffirmed Wood's commitment to helping clients achieve carbon reduction targets without compromising efficiency or cost-effectiveness.
This initiative underscores Wood's dedication to advancing sustainable practices in the industrial sector.
