Italian energy company Eni is preparing to start natural gas production from the Nour concession in the eastern Mediterranean by mid-2026. The company plans to initially produce 100 million cubic feet of natural gas per day from the Nour 1 well, connecting it to the Narges field via a single pipeline. This setup will utilize infrastructure from the nearby Zohr field, Egypt’s largest gas producer, reducing production costs and optimizing operations.

The Nour field, discovered in 2019, spans 100 square kilometers off the northern coast of Sinai. Eni holds a 40% stake in the field, while bp (25%), Mubadala (20%), and Tharwa Petroleum (15%) are also shareholders. In addition, Eni plans to drill a second well in the Nour area in the second half of 2025, with an estimated investment of $80 million.
The Nour concession’s development is expected to strengthen Egypt’s position as a key energy hub in the Mediterranean, contributing to both domestic energy security and export potential. By integrating the Nour field into existing infrastructure, Eni is ensuring a cost-effective and efficient approach to natural gas production, reinforcing its commitment to expanding operations in Egypt.
