ADNOC has signed its third Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) for the Ruwais liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, partnering with EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, a leading energy infrastructure operator in Germany and Europe. Under the 15-year agreement, ADNOC will supply EnBW with 0.6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of lower-carbon LNG, starting in 2028.

This deal converts a previous Heads of Agreement into a definitive contract and marks ADNOC’s second LNG SPA with a German company, following a 1 mtpa agreement signed with SEFE Marketing and Trading Singapore Pte Ltd. in November 2024.
Ruwais LNG Project Highlights:
Located in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Abu Dhabi, the project will commence operations in 2028.
Over 8 mtpa of the project’s 9.6 mtpa production capacity has already been committed through long-term agreements.
ADNOC Gas plans to acquire ADNOC’s 60% stake in the project by 2028, which will double its LNG production capacity to 15 mtpa.
Fatema Al Nuaimi, ADNOC Executive Vice President of Downstream Business Management, emphasized the partnership’s strategic value:
“By supplying lower-carbon LNG to EnBW, we are enhancing energy security and supporting decarbonization efforts, reaffirming ADNOC’s role as a trusted partner in the evolving energy landscape.”
This collaboration aligns with the UAE-Germany Energy Security and Industry Accelerator (ESIA) agreement signed in 2022 and the 2024 Joint Declaration of Intent for Sustainable Energy Cooperation.
EnBW Board Member Peter Heydecker expressed enthusiasm for the long-term partnership:
“Finalizing this contract strengthens our relationship with ADNOC and expands our LNG portfolio. We look forward to a mutually beneficial partnership and further opportunities in LNG and related sectors.”
As the Ruwais LNG project progresses, it positions ADNOC as a key player in meeting global energy needs while advancing sustainable and lower-carbon energy solutions.
