ADNOC Drilling, SLB, and Patterson-UTI Finalize Turnwell Joint Venture

ADNOC Drilling, in partnership with SLB and Patterson-UTI, has announced the formal establishment of Turnwell Industries. This joint venture marks a significant step forward in the UAE’s unconventional energy sector, with ADNOC Drilling holding a 55% stake, SLB 30%, and Patterson-UTI 15%.

Turnwell is poised to transform unconventional energy production in the UAE. It has already achieved remarkable milestones, including delivering wells at record speeds. During its initial 144-well campaign, Turnwell set a benchmark by completing a well in just 19.9 days and reducing well delivery time by 53% across a four-well pad. These accomplishments were made possible through advanced technologies such as measurement-while-drilling tools, rotary steerable systems, and innovative drill bit designs.

The UAE holds an estimated 220 billion barrels of unconventional oil and 460 trillion cubic feet of unconventional gas. Extracting these vast resources will require thousands of additional wells, and Turnwell is committed to meeting this challenge responsibly. The venture will utilize cutting-edge innovations, including AI-driven smart drilling design, to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations.

ADNOC Drilling CEO Abdulrahman Abdulla Al Seiari emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating: “Closing the Turnwell JV with SLB and Patterson-UTI advances our plans to unlock the UAE’s world-class unconventional energy resources, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a global leader in the responsible supply of energy.”

Turnwell also benefits from collaboration with Enersol, ADNOC Drilling’s joint venture with Alpha Dhabi, which is focused on acquiring and investing in innovative energy service technologies to enhance operational efficiency further.
